I admit to you that I have not accomplished keeping myself in great physical shape. I may or may not get winded even walking up my stairs at home. Not proud of it and I'm done shaming myself over it but I just need to be very honest in order to give you the best detailed story. Ok so now that we have that out of the way let me bring you in on this particular day. My husband was on the look out for a new hunting spot since we weren't yet successful in our adventures and it's not like it's because someone had to pee or anything. (read previous blog post for that story)
I had many layers on this afternoon and he led the way to our new location. The journey felt longer and the journey was indeed uphill and I was becoming angry. First, I was just angry at myself for making choices that have not benefited my aging body. I honestly desire to be physically fit and to be able to have endurance and go for long walks with my husband. Then my anger started to point into the direction of my husband. My mind was really starting to conjure up all the thoughts like, "He knows I'm out of shape why did he pick this spot?" "He should be more compassionate towards me." "He is such a jerk sometimes." "He doesn't love me." I know you know the mind games. Then the Lord interrupted my thoughts and said, "Bethany, he knows what you are capable of and you need this push!"
OUCH!
The thing about God's conviction is it is always backed by love and it does not leave you feeling condemned. This immediately shifted my perspective towards myself and my husband. The thoughts I had previously were causing division and after the Lord shifted my mindset I felt love towards myself and my husband. I also felt an inner fire start to ignite like I could do anything! I suddenly was ready to run marathons because I AM CAPABLE!
Ok let's not get too carried away here but you get the picture, right? We are so much more capable than we think. Also, what a difference a mindset shift makes.
I encourage you to ask the Lord if there is a mindset He wants to change and how it will positively affect your life. Ask him how to take one step forward in making this change. God is the best Life Coach.
